Rust's box o' favorite things. Medals, trophies, love letters, picture of Loni Anderson, something that looks suspiciously like the Venture Bros. 4.1 DVD (but, as my cohost pointed out, is pink instead of blue.)

Mr. Goodnews (AKA Thanatos) and Eros. We want to see Thanatos cosplay like woah; Eros, not so much.

The undead Venture clones, busy haunting Dr. Venture's mind. There are several pairs of the green, seaweed-y ones, making us think the Venture twins need to avoid water at all costs.

The Rusty's imaginary bevy of ladies include Lindsay Wagner (the Bionic Woman), Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (not Dr. Girlfriend? Homewrecker.) Sally Impossible, the pink-haired nurse, and Myrah Brandish (not exactly in her prime!)

Do you think the blue eyes of creepy Rusty/Id were on purpose? *Ass Grabbing*

We were both saddened and simultaneously thankful for the cutaway from the Billy/White make-out sesh. Also, between Molotov, Colonel Treister, and now Eros, black eyepatches are so out.

Check out the sweet clock on Ego's wall! It's Brock/Monarch themed. WANT.

Who do you prefer, Superego Rusty or Alternate Dimension Rusty?

Yep, this was all just lying around in the Monarch's bedroom. Again, I want to see Dr. M's costume in cosplay; 21, not so much.

The headcount of the clones is a little off. In this scene, you can count 32 boys. There should only be 28, since 14 pairs have died that we know about. If you watch the episode from start to finish, you can count about 37 boys, and, as @VentureBrosBlog pointed out, that's not even counting the lost Sevens in the microscopic sub!

Oh Monarch, we've missed you so. Also, you need to spend less time galavanting around Dr. V's brain and more time taking care of the homefront.

How amazing was the kicker monologue? Such a great piece of writing on Doc Hammer's part, such a stellar reading on James Urbaniak's. Answers the age-old question of "who was a worse father?" for good.

Oh Geez, we've missed you, Malcolm. Even if this was just faux-montage-you. Apparently, Hank Co. also exists in the faux montage world -- that is definitely a sticker on the side of the ATM!

Eek! How scary was this, even in the kill-y dreamworld sequence? We didn't catch until the second viewing that it says "...me 21" on the wall in blood. As in, "It was me, 21"? Hee. :) Also, we always knew those moppets were no good; this better not be a River Tam/sleeper codeword situation.

Dear Dean: Love your multiple "Encouragement" posters. Thrifty decorating indeed! But anywho, it was good to see you so happy without your dad around. There's hope for you yet!

OK, call us paranoid...but what is the giant 148 about? Why 148? What does it mean? (...it's so vivid; so intense.)

Sergeant Hatred's rations that Dean survives on all summer are called "Soldiers Joy." Roaches not included. Speaking of Hatred, if Rusty is back in NYC, where is his bodyguard?

Again, completely missed that the X-1 was parked on top of Dean's apartment complex the first time we saw the episode. Ah, the glorious Venture-verse.

OH GEEZ look how cute little Rusty is! Look at those eyes; he's like Bambi in stereo. *melt*

"Rust!" A Broadway Musical by Thaddeus S. Venture (written in one night!) We would kill to get our hands on that musical. How much of it do you think Doc and Jackson have written already, if only in their heads (for now)?

Keyboard courtesy of Hank Co. Side-note: Isn't "Rust!" a great name for Dr. Venture's musical? It speaks to the decay of a family name, to the neglect and disuse of potential, to the...OK, we'll stop.

NYC was rife with Bizzy Bee signs. Is it foreshadowing for a future episode? Fingers crossed!

Mmm. This still was just for us. I think our recent infatuation with Dr. Impossible is simply a result of withdrawal-like symptoms for a certain other skinny, accessory-fond villain...

Plus 150 VeryVentureGrls points* for the person who can name all of the villains vying for a spot with the Revenge Society! There's Brainulo and the prong-faced guy from Tag Sale, You're It -- but we want names for the rest of the gang. (*150 points redeemable for a ringpop).

Hands up if you got actual chills during this scene. Us too. "Knife...super-powers..." tee hee.

"Lady Hawk Johnson" looks so much like her namesake, Lady Bird Johnson, it's spooky. See for yourself. Hope we see more of her and Linden Bee (Lyndon B. Johnson)!

Dean is such a good little intern! "I, Dean Venture, resign by duties as Unpaid Summer Intern/Executive Assistant/ Head of Human Resources..." What a go-getter! We are rooting for his Boy Reporter aspirations.

Hi, Sexy Dr. V. So glad our dimension's Rusty didn't kill you with a rock. Sidenote: how great was the real Dr. Venture's hat? Other sidenote: Aren't you glad to have disillusioned Dr. V back in action? Driven, happy Rusty was just off-putting.

Hank should really go into marketing if SPHINX doesn't work out; he's a whiz-bang branding machine. I think "puppet repair" is our favorite of Hank Co.'s new endeavors.

We took this screen-shot solely because it says "0% off select items today" on the sign in the background. Hank is so like his dad.

OK, so right before this screen-shot Dermott was on the phone with his "sister" Nikki. He says her name, clear as day, right in front of Dr. Venture and then yells at him for interrupting the call. Do you think Dr. V caught the name, or was just affronted by an adolescent being rude to him here?

Same question as above! Look at Dr. V's face... either it's a day that ends in Y, or he has a sneaking suspicion about Dermott.

The more you look for a resemblance between the boys and Dermott (AKA Pudgy McTalkalot), the more you find one. Look at the nose! Creepy, right?

Pow, right in the bread-basket! Finally! We could watch this scene on repeat.

Such a great shot of our young hero. Also, what does that key open? More importantly: where can we get one of those keychains?

For the fifty-thousandth time, animation is so incredible in these episodes. Exhibit J: the naked lady puddle!

The Venture Home News also makes a triumphant (albeit quiet) return in this episode when Billy uses it to give Hank Nikki's card. The top story?: "Dateline: New York."

We know this is supposed to be a fist-pumping moment of victory for Hank, but... it's kind of creepy the more we think about it. This almost middle-aged woman has serious issues because of the Venture family; we doubt that we've seen the last of Nikki Ick-tel.

Haha...Hank, your nerd. We love you. Fingers crossed she wasn't your mom!

It's the million-dollar question: who exactly is this Riddler-style Dr. Venture look-a-like with the good hair and pinstripey suaveness? Common guesses: Adult Dean Venture, Dr. Venture from an alternate reality where he's successful, David Bowie up to his old tricks. Stay tuned for answers next Sunday!

Hey there, Venturoos! Sorry for being so quiet this week; we've been super busy! But, as promised, we've put together another installation of screen shots from last Sunday's episode, Pomp & Circuitry.

Poor Hank. Dean receives his 'Venture Industries Homeschool' diploma from the boys' learning bed, but his twin doesn't get one. We wish we could read more of this one, but we love it anyways.

These four images are one of our favorite finds from this episode; The Guild's files on everyone! Some of the more readable ones include: Truckules, Manta Claus, The Monarch, Chairman Wow, ~~Dr. Girlfriend~~ Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, Phantom Limb, Mommy Longlegs, Nat King Cobra, Flying Squid, Crim-o-dile, Baron Ünderbheit, King Gorilla, Half-Jackyl, Skorpio, Tigeriffic, and a few more that we can't quite make out. What an awesome extra background bonus!

There are a few things happening in this shot. First, please notice the super awesome Guild logo on the back of Phantom Limb's jumpsuit. Really, we just love the details! Also, This is a photo from his file, and it was referenced as the Boys' Brigade. We're still a little unsure about who everyone in the photo is (any theories, guesses, or 'duh's?), but we've identified Dr. Venture (Jonas Sr.), Professor Richard Impossible, wheelchair-bound Hamilton G. Fantomos (Phantom Limb), and who we think is The Alchemist with a fro. We could totally be wrong. What do you think?

And, last in this sequence is a shot of some of the folders in Phantom Limb's file: Labeled 'State University,' 'Accident that Gave Him Powers,' and 'Relationships.'

We loved Hank & Dean's Dream Jobs lists! It was fun seeing their different handwriting styles (and how they totally matched their personalities), and also what they want to be when they 'grow up.' Hank's list included drifter, owner/operator of Chimp Eden, Batman (Golden Age), Batman (Post-crisis), and secutor (a type of gladiator).

Dean's dream jobs were really adorable. On his list was 'Boy Reporter,' 'Boy Detective,' 'Marine Biologist,' 'Husband,' and ~~Retiarius~~ (another type of gladiator, which he crosses off because Hank calls them 'gaylords'). Dr. Venture is shown here adding 'Super Scientist' to the list, despite the fact that Dean isn't interested.

The boys' lists are also where Kimson "Retiarius" Albert gets his reference this week.

We love this! Hank is packing up to join the army ("Not that army, Sgt. Butkiss!") and makes sure to take his suction-cup-tipped arrows. You know, for protection.

Remember this lady? Doc & Jackson are very open about re-using background characters, so it's not uncommon to see one. She's from season 1, episode 2 (Careers in Science). Remember when H.E.L.P.eR. is flying through space attached to a satellite? This lady gets a call on her cell phone from him and explains to her friend on the other line that someone is trying to send her a fax. We love the callbacks so much!

One of our favorite parts about beggar Phantom Limb is the font that his sign is in. Really?! Olde English? What homeless people make signs in Olde English? So great.

See these jars of pee? Well, when we met Doc at Dragon*Con, he told us how he often holes himself up in the AstroBase and paints for hours on end. When he gets really into it, he doesn't like to stop for bathroom breaks, so he will pee in jars. This is totally a reference to that. Our favorite part of that story is Jackson's reaction when he comes in and sees what's going on: "You animal."

"The nucleo-tide has turned..." Here is Phineas Phage, who is arching Professor Impossible. He's our only villain (so far, at least) that is an equal-opportunity henchperson employer.

Here's Phage's hench-team: The Pro-Teens. We love that one of them has acne, therefore supporting the idea that they are the 'Pro-Teens' and not the 'Proteins.' We're pretty sure Doc & Jackson just plain can't resist wordplay when it's even remotely present.

Dean & Dr. Venture go to State University to speak with the Dean of Students about college. Don't you love Dr. Venture's car? It's made by Venture Motors and pretty much looks exactly like a Jaguar, except the decal on the front is of a running man instead of the iconic big cat.

Is it us, or does the last guy sitting on the stage kind of look like James Urbaniak?

Please note the Guild thermos, which is dispensing warm, comforting hot chocolate to Phineas Phage as he tattle-tales on Phantom Limb.

Dr. Willard Harris, Dead of Admissions. We're REALLY hoping Comic Sans was used here in irony.

We loved Hank's tin-foil helmet, and his remarkable ability to be, well, smart. Dare we say cunning and apt? "Old mind-eraser switcheroo trap. Easily evaded by the whole tinfoil-on-the-head ruse. So, I passed, right?" Oh, Hank :)

Check out Professor Impossible's new costume! We can't wait to see people cosplaying at the next convention in this. Check out his skull pipe! So super awesome.

Last but not least, is Baron Ünderbheit and his man slave! Homeless edition. And kind of endearing as they ask Professor Impossible (Incorrigible?) and Phantom Limb if they can join their club, all elementary-school-treehouse-gang style.

Hey there, Venturoos! As promised (in the vodcast episode that we're currently posting!), we've put together some of the amazing screen shots from the last episode. There was just so much to get excited about. We're also going to give you some commentary on each, so here goes:

This first one is Brock's communicator watch that Hatred now wears. Brock's name is still on it! Just look at the details on this shot. It's just amazing. The animation quality has just gotten better with each new season, and what we love about these little details is that they're only on the screen for a matter of seconds, but we can just see Doc and Jackson working painstakingly over them, regardless of how few frames they appear in. This watch has appeared before (just saw it in season 2 today), but we're just constantly impressed with the details that the creators put into this show.

Remember this magazine? It first appears in 21's flashback to childhood in a puddle during Pinstripes vs. Poltergeists. It appears again when Billy tells White that the boys and Brock are stuck in Dr. Venture's prostate and he has to fish it out. We love that it's a different issue. The details.

Here are the idea boards for when Dr. Venture is unconscious and Billy, White, and the gang are trying to figure out that's wrong with him. We wanted to get a closer look at what was on those boards, so we figured you guys might want a closer look, too. Some of our favorites? Pops pills, red tide, and Dean's theory; lazy face.

Our screen shot collection would hardly be complete without including the images from 21's PowerPoint presentation of the Mark V Hench-Suit. The detail in these shots is just incredible, and we totally love Doc (and Jackson, of course!) for slaving over these and inserting a little extra humor that you can only appreciate if you get stills of them. Moarcha mesh? Pain Onion? Incredible. We love it.

Hmm. The Butter Glider's mandibles seem to be getting fresh with Dr. Venture. We happened across this still by accident, but thought we would include it just because it's pretty funny. Bonus inappropriate joke! You're so glad you stuck around.

And, last but not least, we leave you with Kimson "Pistolé" Albert. Remember when 21 was silencing the henchmen during the de-briefing with Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and he said 'Pistolé'? Well, we still don't understand the reference (we've Googled everything we can think of, and all we get is that it's French for pistol). Did you understand the reference? Please share it with us. We're dying to know!

This shirt is great. My only complaint is that it's REALLY cut for men, and I'm a lady. So it's weird in the armpits and the front comes up really high around the neck. It's also kind of long, but I like that about the shirt. I wore it to Dragon*Con and saw Doc Hammer and he told me the same things irked him, but that he loved the shirt. Which was awesome.

Obscure Joke of the Week: Revealed!

Hiya Venturoos! Welcome to our new segment: "Obscure Joke of the Week, Revealed!" OK, so to preface:

1.) Yes, we're basing our picks on what we consider "obscure." This may not be obscure to you at all -- but bear with us.

2.) If you want to suggest or explain another reference that you loved in this week's episode, please leave a comment. We'd love to hear it!

3.) Yep, Doc & Jackson would probably hate this segment for it's cold, clinical nature. Let's get started!

Episode: "The Diving Bell vs. The Butter Glider"

Setting: A welcome home party for King Gorilla attended by an assortment of neighborhood villains -- including The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. King Gorilla has lost a lot of weight due to having the big C (which no one told The Monarch about).

Joke: The Monarch to Dr. Mrs. The Monarch: "He looks like a gorilla suit with nobody in it--wearing David Byrne's 'Stop Making Sense' suit."

Explained!: The joke references a 1984 movie/documentary titled "Stop Making Sense" that features three concerts performed by the Talking Heads. Tagline: "Why stop making sense? Why a movie? Why a big suit? Where do the odd movements come from? What will the band do next?" As you have probably gathered by now, frontman David Byrne wears a crazy-huge white suit in the documentary... for artistic reasons? Eh, I was too busy being a twinkle in my parents' eyes to appreciate it. Picture time!

The Venture Bros. gets Wired

Has our beloved Venture Bros. show breached the 'under-the-radar' status and gained some serious street cred with the geek world? We can only hope. And this article on Wired magazine's blog is a serious sign that it has. Also, much win here.

Quick! What's the most deranged fanboy toon on television? If you didn't answer Adult Swim's The Venture Bros., which returns Sunday to begin wrapping the rest of its transgressive fourth season, then you may need to seriously recalibrate your geek meter.

"Well, I wouldn't call it deranged," The Venture Bros. co-writer and multidisciplinary artist Doc Hammer told Wired.com in an e-mail interview. "The show is clinically sane. I mean, that's kinda why it speaks to the fanboy."

Whatever gets you through the night, Hammer. Loaded with ballistic action, bloody humor and pop-culture stabs both obvious and obscure, Hammer and show creator Jackson Publick's unrelentingly sharp spoof of a family of mad scientists might broadly appeal across demographics.

Also, they've compiled a list of must-see cult TV, which includes Firefly (one of our favorites), that you should check out if you have the time.

But, we digress. Back to the Venture Brothers. As you (probably/should) know, tonight is the season premiere of 4.2, and we just can't wait. It's on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at 11:30pm. We expect to see you there.

Check out this article that ran on the LA Weekly blog today... they mention our vodcast! And the article isn't so bad itself....

The Venture Bros. thrives with very little media attention. In a way, it's a Web 2.0 phenomenon. News often breaks through Jackson's LiveJournal or Doc's MySpace page, then travels through a network of fan-based media outlets. There are news sites, like The Venture Bros. Blog and The Mantis Eye Experiment, in addition to forums and a wiki resource. There are commentary sources like Very Venture Vodcast. Then there's the almost voyeuristic Doc Hammer, Fuck Yeah, a Tumblr page that features little more than photos of the boisterous and fashionable co-writer.

Also, have we mentioned how amazing Dragon*Con was yet? We met some AMAZING new friends (including Marc, from Venture Bros. Blog and Chandra, who is also known as SpookyChan) and had the time of our lives. If you weren't following us in Twitter (tsk, tsk), you should, because we posted some great photos and we even tweeted some conversational tidbits from talking to Doc. And speaking of Doc, we just have to share this:

Dragon*Con, here we come!

Where will you be Labor Day weekend? We'll be in Atlanta, Georgia, attending Dragon*Con. Doc & Jackson have committed to appearing at this year's convention (see the end of this post for the official word), and as soon as we found out we booked tickets. Any other Venture fans going to be celebrating their right to Geek out at this year's con? We'd love to see all of our favorite Venturoos!

So, as you may have noticed, we've taken a bit of a hiatus. It was one part withdrawal induced (it's been really hard to be all "Go Team Venture!" all the time with the knowledge that the show isn't coming back until FOREVER (a.k.a. August)) and another part we-let-ourselves-get-really-caught-up-in-our-jobs-and-kind-of-put-the-vodcast-on-the-back-burner.

That being said, we're going to be posting a few things here on the blog, dusting off our nary-a-tweet-since-February Twitter account, and possibly even recording a vodcast or two. We know; big things.

AND, to keep you sated until we pull everything together, here's a brief and abridged updated on what's going on in the Venture world:

Jackson Publick (one of the creators and writers of the show) updated his LiveJournal in March with a pretty thorough update with that's going on with the show, the production schedule, the DVDs, etc. Basically, the show will most likely be back in August, and they are working on a super-special one-hour season finale in December (squee!!) They are also working with Bif Bang Pow on the official Venture Brothers action figures, and — the best news of all! — have committed to appearances at Comic-Con and Dragon*Con. You had better buy your tickets now, Venturoos, because Comic-Con is already sold out, and we're sure Dragon*Con will sell out soon. As an aside, Doc and Jackson's bios for Dragon*Con are (as expected) hilarious, so you should check them out.

As well as all of this super-awesome news comes some other fun from the Venture world. We're guessing that the show's lengthy hiatus has inspired most people to put together fun reminders of why we all love the show so much, including Adult Swim's series of top 10 moments. Guest Blog: A Crafty T-shirt Adventure

Hi Venturoos! We'd like to introduce our first guest blogger, Trey, or @Treejail4you (on The Twitter). Do you remember the sweet t-shirts we wore in Episode 8 of V3? Well, meet their creator — and then keep scrolling to see his newest (and equally sweet) creations:

Happy Venturing? I guess that’s how this should start. I’ve been asked by the lovely ladies of V3 to play around on the blog from time to time. Maybe we should start off with just a touch on me: I run a custom silk screening shop, and let’s just say I take advantage of this for little pet projects, fun party favors, and other nerdtastic randomness. That being said, I figure it’d be fun to have arts and crafts time!

Being college-aged, I find myself in general, generic party situations. However, a group of my friends try to break the mold by hosting EPIC game nights. These are less of a party and more of a battle for bragging rights. Two-person teams wage war in just about any form possible — short of actually fighting one another. Partners come and go, and each pairing has a different team name. Team names are a very important aspect, as they tie into the very feel of the night. Here’s a short list of teams I’ve been a part of; Rogue Squadron, Team Utility Belt, Team Huorn, Deku Nuts, Team Teamwork, Dumbledore’s Army, Team So Zetta Slow, The Istari, and my most recent team formed…TEAM VENTURE!

Most of my teammates have come to expect a certain amount of flare from me and I try not to let them down. Obviously, as Team Venture, our “go to” move is yelling “Go Team Venture” with the power V venture pose. My partner and I jokingly came up with a shirt idea— one that quickly became reality.

Now, the FUN PART: after designing the shirt, I picked out our color scheme and printed out the artwork. We take the art and burn it on to silk mesh screens coated with photosensitive emulsion. These screens are then put in a light box and bombarded with light, curing the emulsion except for the area with art. After burning, the screen must be washed out. All areas covered by art washes away, giving us our image.

After drying and taping the screen, we then set up our press and start printing. After dabbing your chosen ink color onto the screen, you then pull a squeegee over the image, which forces the ink through the screen onto the shirt.

This design had three different print areas, so it had to be set up three separate times. Between each print it had to be run through the dryer to cure the ink and ensure that the ink sets into the shirt. This was the first run:

Heya Venturoos!

Remember the painted images Jackson Publick posted on his (the) LiveJournal before the premiere? What a tease. Anyway, most have already been explained in the first six episodes, but not all. Here are a few still making us ponder, as well as our theories:

H: Is this the Revenge Society's headquarters? Jonas Jr.'s secret (evil?) hideout? Captain Sunshine's summer house? I have no idea, but that creepy hand that's supporting the incoming bridge is giving me the heebie jeebies.

M: I agree, it's very Revenge-y. Just please don't let it be an Underbheit arc.

H&M: Jackson shed some light on this one: "That, by the way, is a 3D modeled Monarchmobile the Korean studio surprised us with." Say it with us: Squee!

H: Hank and Dean appear to be fishin' for some ladies at the mall. I'm intrigued. This season has brought about a lot of changes for the boys — a barely-there 'stache and an interest in science for Dean, a rebellious streak and a new style for Hank — so I'm not surprised. I am, however, wondering what the heck the girl in the green shirt is thinking with her thong hanging out there like that.

M: Is it bad when you start recognizing background characters? That red shirt lady gets around. Anyway, Hank is very "it's ours for the taking!" in this — Dean is characteristically (and comfortingly) unnerved. Love the three-piece suit: OMG — another date with Triana?:)

H: Another orb? To tell you the truth, I don't even care what the giant pink glowing thing is in this shot — what I'm really excited for is the return of Triana!

M: Yay! The return of The Triad. How I have missed Dr. O & the gang. Fingers crossed this is a portal to visit Orpheus' master (the first time for the other two members.)

The first a secret goody from the Season 4 premiere! This comic book flashes for a few seconds during a scene transition, and the seal says something a little heart-warming. Doc comments, about the premiere, "I hope you guys liked the premiere. Jackson and I had you guys in mind. We made it for you, in fact. Ya see, we already knew what was gonna happen, but you guys didn't. So we animated it just for you!"

The second hardly needs any explanation, except to say — where can I can get a subscription?
